Jesus Christ is the Light

“WOE!” Proclaims the prophet Isaiah, “To those who call darkness, “light” and light, “darkness”” (Isa. 5:20). And how sorrowful then, is the world we live in? The entire inhabitants of earth that is deceived by Satan, calls the very darkness of the wicked fallen archangel “light”; while they remain darkened and deceived. Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the only light there is, He is the true Light.

It says, “In Him was the life, and the life was the light of men, and the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it,” and, “He was the true Light; He enlightens every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into being through Him; yet the world did not know Him” (John 1:4-5, 9-10)

What we must come to realize, is how important light is. Naturally, sunlight allows us to see, gives us needed vitamins, and brings life to plants which in turn give life to us and animals. However, more importantly, the Light of Christ is needed to “enlighten” us. One who needs enlightenment isn’t just one who is ignorant, and needs “knowledge” but, it’s needed because of darkness. Darkness, even if you have eyes that can see, does not allow you to see. You cannot have any visibility of direction, and cannot walk in the right path. You literally “cannot live”, even though “seeing”, you are “blind” in the dark.

The word “enlighten” in the Greek is “photizo” which can also mean “to shed rays, to brighten up.” It comes from the root word “phos” or “to shine, or make manifest.” In essence, enlightenment is the Light of Jesus Christ being made manifest to you. His Light, illuminating what is dark, and shining through, transforming the darkness into light. Just as a light brightens a room, turning what was once dark into light, this is metaphorically the how the enlightenment of Christ works.

Before regeneration, the spirit of a man is darkened and bound to darkness, subjected to the “law of darkness.” It cannot submit to the things of God, until the Holy Spirit through Christ, comes and does the work of regeneration. The dark spirit, upon it being cleansed by the Blood and Atonement work, then believing in the Resurrection; is enlightened. The new spirit is full of the true light and illumination of Christ, and able to subject itself to God’s light of life and laws.

The world, even being created through Christ, did not know Him. Yes, the world that preaches an “enlightenment” does not even know the Enlightener, that is Christ Jesus. Satan himself, before the his fall was once a “light bearer,” but now his light is artificial and deceptive, and is utter darkness. That’s why the Apostle warned, “Satan comes as an angel of light.” Yet, for those truly enlightened, the “light” of Satan’s illusion can be clearly exposed as darkness.

Light is needed in the warfare against the powers of darkness, that is Satan and his wicked hosts. In fact, we must put on the “armor of light” while casting off the unfruitful works of darkness…
