When you become born again, there is no doubt in my mind about the truthfulness of the scriptures. All past sins are forgiven. old things are passed away, and all things are made new in the new creation.
Yet, there is an overlap. here is an example.
You committed a crime and you got arrested and jailed. While in jail, you become born again. Yet, you go to trial and you are found guilty. YOU HAVE TO DO THE TIME.
Even so, the difference between you and other prisoners is like night and day. All guilt, shame and condemnation is wiped away from you and you serve your time in the joy and peace of the Lord. Your time served becomes productive. Other inmates with problems and issues come to you for advice and solace. You are respected because of your faith and viciously hated by some who are demon filled, yet you are protected in the midst of your enemies from all harm and danger.
I recall what was going on in my life when I got born again in 1977. I had been seeing a married man, a colleague for about a year. In fact, the Holy Spirit used that sinful relationship to prove to me that I was a sinner.
However, I tried to hold on to the man AFTER I was born again. I was not in church, and I had no CHRISTIAN elders to advise and guide me, so I kept the relationship. One day, shortly after I was born again, I was walking through my apartment and suddenly, I hit the floor on my back. Almost like slain in the spirit without a catcher!!!! LOL
It felt like I was pinned to the floor. Then I heard a voice say “Pam, you are causing that man to commit adultery. STOP SINNING NOW!!!!!
You talk about the fear of the Lord? I was afraid to go outside because I thought I might be hit by Lightning or run over by a truck!!!
I LET THE MAN GO!!!!
My point is this. When God saves you, LET GO OF THE SINS AND MISTAKES OF THE PAST. DO NOT CARRY THEM OVER INTO YOUR BORN AGAIN FUTURE. THIS IS NOT ONLY A TEACHING BUT A SERIOUS WARNING TO EVERYONE!!!!
